What Is a Sludge Dewatering Press?
A sludge dewatering press — also called a screw press or multi-disc screw press — is a new type of solid-liquid separation equipment. It dewaters sludge by combining the powerful extrusion force generated by the changing screw diameter and pitch with the tiny gaps between the moving rings and fixed rings.
How Is It Built?
At its core, the press is a filtration device made up of multiple fixed rings and moving rings, with a screw shaft running through the center. The front section handles concentration (thickening), while the rear section takes care of dewatering. This clever design means both steps happen inside a single cylinder — no separate equipment needed.
How Does It Work?
Sludge first goes through gravity concentration in the front section. From there, it's carried into the dewatering zone. As it moves forward, the gaps and screw pitch gradually get smaller, and with the added resistance from the back pressure plate, this creates extremely high internal pressure. The volume keeps shrinking along the way, resulting in thorough dewatering.
