Shallow Sand Filtration for Agricultural Well Water in the United States

November 6, 2026
Agriculture United States of America Real Cases

A client in the United States needed a reliable filtration solution for agricultural well water used for farmland irrigation. The main contaminant in the water is fine black manganese sediment. The required flow rate ranges from 50 GPM to 120 GPM (approximately 11.36 to 27.25 m³/h). The recommended filtration system also needed to withstand short-term high startup flow surges, which may exceed 120 GPM.
The client has storage tanks on site. Water flows by gravity to the filtration system and then, depending on the irrigation field, continues through pipelines either horizontally or downward into the fields.

Requirements

  • Material: carbon steel with epoxy coating
  • Equipped with manual valves, as workers visit the site daily for inspection
  • Equipment should be as simple and convenient as possible
  • Preferred equipment: Model 24 shallow sand filter

Solution: JX-SL24-3 Shallow Sand Filtration System

After further refinement, the model was finalized as JX-SL24-3, featuring three tank bodies, each with a maximum treatment capacity of 15 m³/h. The client ultimately selected the JX-SL24-3 over the JX-SL24-2.

Technical Specifications

  1. The system uses Baccara differential pressure controllers and differential pressure sensors.
  2. The system includes valves, controller, inlet pipe, outlet pipe, filter tanks, clamps, and a base made of channel steel. All components are fully assembled, wired, and connected at the factory. After the equipment arrives on site, only the inlet/outlet pipes and drain pipe need to be connected before operation.
  3. The main impurity to be filtered is a very fine black manganese sediment. The recommended filtration media is quartz sand or natural sea sand with a particle size of 0.6–1.2 mm. Each tank is filled with 170 kg of media (shallow sand filling height: 400 mm).
  4. The equipment operates with automatic filtration, automatic backwashing, and continuous cycling.
