Diameter-variable Screw Press

I. Introduction to Applications

The Diameter-variable Screw Press is designed for solid-liquid separation of materials containing a small amount of fibrous substances or viscous large-particle materials. It is commonly used for juice extraction from materials with light fiber content such as soybean residue, mulberries, vinegar residue, wine residue, crushed aloe vera, kitchen waste, fermented apples and pears. It is also suitable for continuous juicing of fermented grape skins and fresh sea buckthorn fruits.

The press operates by using physical extrusion to dehydrate materials through changes in the diameter and pitch of the main screw. Materials enter through the feeding hopper and are conveyed by the screw, where pressure gradually increases to extract water. The liquid passes through the screen mesh and is collected, while the dewatered material is discharged through the outlet. The system is engineered to achieve low energy consumption, high throughput, and low moisture content, minimizing costs for secondary material processing.

II. Structural Introduction

The press is a single-screw, diameter-variable, continuous working dewatering machine consisting of: frame, transmission system, feeding section, diameter-variable screw, pressing section, pressure system, and protective cover. The screw shaft is driven by a motor reducer via a gearbox. The feed hopper contains a perforated filter plate for preliminary filtration.

The screw is divided into three sections: feeding, compression, and discharge. The compression section gradually reduces screw pitch and diameter, increasing pressure to remove water. A material resistance device provides secondary pressing before final discharge.

III. Equipment Characteristics

1. Low operating cost – No heat source required, minimal energy use compared to drying equipment.
2. High continuous throughput – Optimized screw parameters to prevent clogging and backflow.
3. Low moisture residue – Customized parameters based on material properties for maximum efficiency.
4. Wear & corrosion resistance – Key parts made from SS304 with wear-resistant coatings.
5. No chemical additives – Fine screens (0.7–1.0 mm) eliminate need for flocculants.

IV. Installation, Operation, and Maintenance

  • Pre-Installation Preparation

  • Before installation, check and verify all components against the packing list.

  • Remove any rust and thoroughly clean all parts to ensure proper assembly and operation.

  • Installation Requirements

  • During installation, ensure the centerlines of all components are precisely aligned.

  • Misalignment may cause excessive mechanical wear or prevent the equipment from operating properly.

  • Lubrication Before Operation

  • For the gear reducer, use HJ30 mechanical oil or butter grease.

  • Maintain the normal oil level at the centerline of the oil gauge.

  • When using grease in the gearbox, ensure sufficient coverage of the gear surfaces.

  • Apply an appropriate amount of grease to the rolling bearings to guarantee smooth operation.

  • Startup Procedure

  • After connecting the power supply and starting the reducer, first confirm the correct rotation direction of the screw.

  • Adjust the spring or hydraulic rod to press the pressure baffle against the screen cylinder.

  • Only begin feeding material after adjusting the pressure to the required level.

  • Adjust the resistance plate pressure according to the material type and desired dryness of the discharged residue.

  • Shutdown Procedure

  • When pressing is nearly complete, reduce the pressure on the discharge resistance plate so that the pomace can push open the cone.

  • Stop the machine and clean the remaining pomace inside the screen cylinder.

  • Long-Term Storage

  • If the machine will be idle for an extended period, clean all residues, apply grease to rust-prone components, and store in a ventilated, dry location.

  • Routine Lubrication

  • Regularly lubricate transmission system bearings with grease.

  • Regularly add lubricating oil or grease to the gearbox.

  • Lubricate the rotating section at the tail end of the main shaft through the grease cup.

  • Hydraulic System Maintenance

  • Regularly inject hydraulic oil into the hydraulic tank. Replace the hydraulic oil every 6,000 operating hours.

  • Use 15–20 liters of #46 or #68 anti-wear hydraulic oil. (The oil tank is shipped empty and must be filled before use.)

  • The oil temperature in the hydraulic system must not exceed 60°C.

  • Avoid operating the hydraulic gear pump continuously under high pressure for more than 20 minutes.

  • Temperature Control

  • The temperature rise of transmission system bearings should not exceed 45°C above ambient temperature.

  • Rotation Direction

  • The equipment is equipped with a plum-blossom plate pusher and must not run in reverse.

  • Before startup, jog the motor to confirm forward screw rotation and ensure the electrical wiring is correct.

  • Screen Cylinder Cleaning

  • Flush the mesh holes on the screen cylinder every 3–5 working days to keep them clear.

  • Preventing clogging improves juice flow, extrusion, and dehydration performance.

  • Wear Inspection

  • Inspect all transmission components regularly and replace worn parts promptly.

  • Common wear parts include copper bushings, resistance springs, oil pipes, hopper packing, and screen cylinders.

  • Safety During Maintenance

  • Always disconnect the main power supply before performing any adjustment or maintenance.

  • Warranty

  • The product is covered by a one-year warranty from the date of delivery.

  • Wear parts such as bearings, oil seals, packing, springs, and screen cylinders are not covered under warranty.
