Sand Filter Solution for Canadian Dewatering Client
Client Background
Our client is a Canadian company specializing in construction dewatering and groundwater control services, with over 30 years of industry experience. They require a sand filter for treating construction wastewater.
Project Requirements
- Preferred vessel material: Carbon steel with internal coating
- Design flow rate: 90–120 m³/h
One Crucial Question from Client
Can the sand filter vessels be adapted to use alternative filter media, such as activated carbon, greensand, or ion exchange resin? If not, what modifications would be needed to accommodate these media?
Answer
Whether alternative media can be used depends on the required media bed height. This must be evaluated together with the operating pressure of the equipment and the pressure of the backwash water source, to confirm whether sufficient backwash space has been reserved inside the vessel.
For standard sand filter vessels, converting to anthracite, manganese sand, or activated carbon is generally straightforward. Ion exchange resin, however, is less suitable: resin requires acid/alkali regeneration, so the vessel must be lined with natural rubber, and its internal structure differs somewhat from that of conventional media filters such as sand filters.
Confirmed Equipment
The client has confirmed the purchase of model JX-SL42-3, consisting of 3 vessels, each with a treatment capacity of 40 m³/h — fully meeting the client's maximum required flow rate.
