Scouring Plate Grille Operation and Installation Manual
1. Preparations Before Installation
- Familiarization:
Review the equipment installation drawings to understand the structure, function, features, and all related technical requirements. - Handling and Inspection:
Equipment loading/unloading must be supervised by designated personnel. After unloading, check all components against the packing list and installation drawings to ensure completeness and that no damage has occurred. If necessary, perform repairs, cleaning, lubrication, and then store the equipment neatly covered with an oilcloth or plastic sheet. - Foundation Verification:
Verify the foundation elevation, channel width, and embedded parts according to the supplied foundation and installation drawings (small models do not require embedded parts—simply ensure the equipment is properly aligned and operates without obstruction). All deviations must remain within the allowable tolerances.
2. Installation
Attach the lifting lugs on the gearbox side to the lifting hook, then lower the entire unit into the channel facing the water flow direction. Adjust its position to ensure:
- The main shaft is level.
- The two sides of the frame are on the same plane.
- The gaps on both sides are equal.
- The water-seal rubber plate is properly sealed.
Once aligned, fix the unit to the foundation using expansion bolts, or weld the frame shims onto the embedded steel plates—depending on the foundation conditions.
3. Trial Operation
- Inspection Before Startup:
Conduct a thorough inspection and lubrication of the equipment. Ensure all fasteners are tight. Adjust the tension of the drive chain and rake chain. Check the gearbox oil level—if insufficient, refill according to the Gearbox Operation Manual. - Initial Motor Test:
Momentarily start the motor to confirm the rake chain's running direction. Reverse rotation is strictly prohibited. The rake must move upward on the inlet (water-facing) side. After confirming normal movement, start the motor for continuous operation. - No-Load Test:
After 2–3 hours of no-load operation, if no abnormalities occur, proceed with water-load testing.
Routine Maintenance and Servicing
- Remove any fibrous impurities or debris blocking the rake chain to prevent operational issues.
- Regularly clean the waste accumulated on the discharge plate, depending on the amount of debris.
- If the motor runs normally but the rake chain does not move, the overload safety pin has likely sheared. Switch off the power and replace the safety pin.
- Lubricate rolling bearings weekly with No. 2 calcium-based grease using a grease gun.
- Maintain and service the gearbox according to the Gearbox Operation Manual.
Common Faults and Troubleshooting
Fault:
Motor operates normally but the rake chain does not move.
Cause:
Overload has caused the safety pin to shear.
Troubleshooting Methods:
- Remove the sprocket cover and replace the overload safety pin (refer to the overload safety pin installation diagram).
- Identify the cause of overload—typically foreign objects jamming the rake chain—and remove them.
- Stainless steel rake teeth may deform due to heavy impact, causing the roller to derail. Straighten immediately, or remove/repace the rake tooth if severely deformed.
- If the chain plates in the rake chain are worn or detached, replace or repair them.
Chain Plate Replacement Procedure
- Inch the equipment so the worn chain plate aligns with the maintenance opening.
- Remove the side plate at the maintenance opening.
- Use two metal rods to secure the rake chain to prevent it from falling due to gravity during removal.
- Use circlip pliers to remove the circlip from the chain plate requiring replacement.
- Replace the chain plate following the original assembly sequence, then reinstall the circlips.
- Reattach the side plate of the maintenance opening.
After confirming the overload cause has been resolved, restart the equipment following the standard startup procedure for new machines.
