Background
Our client is a mining company based in Mongolia, operating a slurry processing system. After evaluating various options, they approached us with a specific need for wedge wire screens to be used in their mud treatment process.

Design Development and Collaboration
Following our initial proposal, we engaged in multiple rounds of discussion with the client to refine the design. During this process, the client raised a specific request:
They preferred to have the wedge wire mesh installed on the same side and back side of the flange plate, rather than on the solid plate side.
However, after evaluating the mechanical implications, we presented our professional recommendation:
Our assessment:
- Installing wedge wire mesh on the flange side would significantly reduce bending resistance and compressive strength.
- The mesh side would be more vulnerable to mechanical damage under operational stress.
- A solid plate on the flange side offers far greater load-bearing capacity and structural integrity.
Our suggestion:
A plate on the flange side and a mesh on the opposite side.
We further explained that adding a screen mesh at the inlet position could improve permeability, but it would compromise the flange's mounting stability and load capacity—ultimately shortening the product's service life. As a trusted partner, we prioritized the client's long-term operational interests over short-term performance gains.
After careful consideration, the client accepted our recommendation.
Final Design Enhancements
When finalizing the production drawings, we went one step further to ensure the product could withstand real-world operating conditions. We added six reinforcing ribs to the screen structure, significantly improving its overall strength and durability. This enhancement was not originally requested by the client but was proactively incorporated based on our engineering judgment and understanding of the application environment.

Repeat Order and Client Feedback
Satisfied with the product quality and performance, the client placed an identical repeat order for another 12 units. During our post-delivery follow-up, we received the following feedback:
"I can confirm that the screens are working well. I would also like to confirm if it is possible to increase the thickness of the wedge wire. The conditions are a bit harsh due to the compressed air we use to assist with the flow of slurry."
We acknowledged this valuable input and confirmed that we will address this in the next inquiry. Increasing the wedge wire thickness will enhance the screen's resistance to the accelerated wear caused by compressed air-assisted slurry flow, further extending its operational life in harsh conditions.
